Quilt Preparation
- Do not baste or pin your quilt. Keep quilt layers separate as they will be put on the machine separately.
- Please safety pin a note identifying the top of the quilt. If necessary, also identify the top of the backing.
- Quilt top and backing needs to be well pressed. Please trim all threads on both sides as these can show up through the quilting if not caught before quilting.
- Please make sure your seams are sewn securely and edges are straight & stay-stitched.
- Please do not add any embellishments to quilt before quilting.
- Make sure the batting and backing measure at least 4” wider on both sides, and at least 6” longer on the top & bottom.
- The backing should be a good quality muslin or quilting fabric, no bedsheets. Make sure all threads are trimmed and seams (if any) are pressed.
- All seams should be pressed to one side or pressed open. You will be charged $10 if quilt top or backing need pressing.
- Make sure that quilt top and back are squared up (90 degree right angles on corners) and that edges are straight. I will charge $25 if I need to square your quilt for you.
- Stay stitch around the entire quilt top (¼ “ from edge), this helps the quilt to hold it's shape & prevents stretching.
- If your borders or any other part of your quilt do not lay flat, it may cause tucks, pleats, or add fullness to your quilt after quilting.
- Call or email me before shipping your quilt, so that I can expect it.
- Make checks or money orders payable to Shannon Banks Britton or Shannon's Quilting Studio.
- All orders require a $50 deposit, unless it is a small job costing less than $50.
- Pack your quilt in a clean trash bag before packing in a box. Please include order form, check, any special instructions, and batting & backing. Do NOT mark the outside of the box with “QUILT”, as this may tempt some to steal.
- Once I receive your quilt, I will call you before I begin quilting to make sure we are in agreement on all details.
